This leather dog leash is very likely stronger than any you have ever seen. There are no stitches on it that would fray. Instead I use the unique assembly technique of creating a special type of overlapping braid. This braid causes all of the force to be applied back onto the leather itself, thus tightening the braid. A solid brass rivet keeps the ends tidy. The leather I use is called Full Grain Latigo. It is basically waterproof due to the high content of oils and waxes embedded in the leather. It is also extremely durable - most notably it is used in the horse tack industry to fasten saddles onto the horse...so it had better be strong!
Comes with a free tin of my shop made natural leather conditioner. The clip and ring is solid stainless steel of a very high grade. The rivet is solid brass with a nickel plating. Leashes are cut to be as long as possible within the limitations of a hide, so lengths will vary by a few inches. Made for medium to large dogs and is extremely durable.
ABOUT THE LEATHER
For my leather dog leashes I searched and searched until I found a specific type of leather that is well suited for strap goods that will see a lot of use and exposure to a range of conditions. The leather is called U.S. Full-Grain Latigo Leather and is used extensively in the horse saddle industry providing the strength that is required as well as the water resistance and resistance to wear. Specifically Latigo Leather is used to cinch down a saddle to the horse – this is an area that sees an extreme amount of pressure, weather, and rubbing – so it’s got to be strong. The leather is completely stuffed with waxes, helping to preserve the leash even when doused with water, rolled in the mud, and dried out in the sun. To be quite honest – this is the only type of leather that should be used for a dog leash – stay away from the Vegetable Tanned leathers for leashes and collars, though they are great for wallets!
STAINLESS STEEL HARDWARE
When I set out to design the strongest and most durable type of leather dog leash line I wanted to use hardware that was made to last as well. Stainless Steel clips and O-Rings is what you will find on my dog leashes. It is the strongest form of metal available, rust proof, and again taken straight from the horse saddle industry.
SOLID DRILLED BRASS RIVETS
Have you heard of these? Probably not, simply because there really aren’t any other makers out there that would go to the trouble to find a style of rivet that is several times stronger than your typical version. They are solid brass with a drilled tube that allows me to install them in a way where they just simply wont let go. Plus they look nice and wont corrode.

FREE LEATHER CONDITIONER
If I haven’t sold you at this point, here’s the kicker! I make my own high quality leather conditioner from scratch in my shop. I call it Spiff N’ Shine and because I believe in my leather goods and want them to last for you for a long time, I provide the tin of conditioner to you for free. You only need to rub a thin layer on every 6 months or later to keep the leash in a healthy state. The leather comes pre-oiled and heavily waxed so it will be ready to go for a long long time.
