Today I found some time to pattern out three custom knife sheaths. I have two of them cut including the welts, now just finishing up on the third. I am using 9 oz. vegetable tanned leather and it can be quite ‘fun’ to cut. One tip – case the leather first, and make sure your blade is very very sharp. I am using a simple box cutter razor, but I have stropped it several times first and keep stropping it after a few cuts. Mostly this method seems to work well. Next step – laying out the tooling/stamping pattern.
