How to Make a Magnetic Key Pouch

In this video I go over several beginner techniques in leather working. Including how to easily cut, dye, glue, stitch, burnish, and install hardware. It’s best to practice on small items like this as they are easy to make and you can move into the next step fairly quickly.

Tools + Materials Needed

  • 3 to 4 oz. vegetable tanned carving leather
  • Scissors with micro serrated edge (Ginger brand is great)
  • Speedball Pen
  • Ruler
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Rotary Punch
  • Paper towels
  • Fiebings Leather Dye of your choice
  • 90% rubbing alcohol
  • Burnishing tool (Dremel version is great)
  • Line 24 snap setter and handpress
  • Line 24 snaps
  • Neodymium Magnet
  • Aquiline 315 glue
  • Glue Spreader
  • Tiger thread
  • Two harness needles
  • A wax finish like my shop’s Spiff N Shine
  • Columbia edge wax
